Like many other brands in the fashion retail space, American Eagle mistakenly perceived TikTok as a another platform for the dissemination of one-way brand messages without the consumer’s involvement. Bland middle-of-the-road imagery and messaging that had worked on other platforms netted no new interest on platform.
